About Blinker

What is Blinker?

Blinker is a mobile app that changes the way you discover, sell and purchase cars. It’s simple. Snap a photo to instantly learn about any car. Post your car for sale in seconds. Find one you love and quickly purchase for a payment that works for you (subject to qualifications).

Is Blinker a dealership?

Blinker is not a dealership. Think of Blinker as a tool that helps private party sellers and buyers message, meet, and transact securely. Blinker helps sellers by educating them on the car they own, and distributing their car for sale across social and partner networks. Blinker helps buyers by allowing them to find the car they want and simply pay cash or create a monthly payment on their terms (subject to qualifications).

Is Blinker available everywhere in the US?

Transactions are only available with Blinker in Colorado right now. We’ll be coming to a state near you very soon.

Selling with Blinker

Why should I sell my car with Blinker?

Blinker helps you sell your car yourself, which means you keep all the money. We make the process easy, post your car to Craigslist and other major vehicle marketplaces, connect you with the right buyer and provide a safe platform for you to get paid securely. It’s all completely free. We’re just here to help.

Does Blinker charge a fee for selling a car?

No. It is free to sell your car with Blinker.

What can I expect during the selling process?

Expect to verify your ownership.

In order to list your car, you must verify that you are the official owner. You will take a photo of your driver’s license and vehicle registration. You will be required to take a photo of the title for your car, or tell us about your loan.

Expect to link your bank account.

Blinker needs to know where to securely send your money so you will provide your bank account information, and we will do the rest.

Expect to talk with more than one potential buyer.

The more potential buyers you message, the greater opportunity you’ll have for a successful transaction.

Most people want to see and drive a car before they buy it. This is your opportunity to build trust with the potential buyer and get them excited about your ride.

Expect to prepare paperwork.

We will mail you a packet containing step-by-step instructions and the necessary paperwork you will need to complete a successful transaction.

Expect to get paid.

How should I prepare my car to sell?

Thoroughly clean your car.

Remove all of your personal belongings and empty everything from the glove compartment, trunk, and console. Wipe it down, vacuum it out and put some air freshener in it.

Put all the service records in a folder and leave in the car.

Cars that are maintained well, sell well. So pile up the papers that prove you were a good owner. The CARFAX® report you receive from Blinker contains lengthy vehicle history, but not necessarily every service that’s been completed.

Gather the paperwork you received when you first purchased your vehicle.

Bring all of the manuals, handbooks and brochures that you have. If you bought your car new, include the Monroney sticker or a copy of it.

How do I take the best photos of my car?

Photos can make or break an ad. Start by finding an open area with a simple background. You don’t want anything in the photo to distract others from your car as the focal point. The best time of day for lighting is when the sun is rising or setting. Midday light can be too harsh, and nighttime photos require a flash, neither of which is ideal for your ad. Take a bunch of photos. The more you show, the more the buyer can learn about your car. Add variety. Get the exterior from a number of different angles, highlight special features, pop the hood, snap a photo of the engine and detail of the tread. Have fun and get a little creative. The more quality photos you add, the more you will increase your chances for a fast sell, at a price you’re happy with. We ask you take at least 9 for a quality post using Blinker, but you can include up to 24 photos.

How should I write the description for my ad?

We provide the year, make, model, estimated mileage, CARFAX® report, and all the technical information. You can update any information provided and list any remaining details that make your car valuable and unique.

How will an interested buyer contact me?

Blinker buyers and sellers never have to share personal information like personal email addresses and phone numbers with each other if they don’t want to. All communication between the buyer and seller happens inside your app inbox, which can be found in the app’s menu. Ask questions, set up test drives, negotiate and send offers, all within the Blinker app.

How do I list my car with Blinker?

Listing your car with Blinker is easy.

  1. Open the Blinker app.
  2. Tap the pink camera icon on the bottom of the home screen.
  3. Line up your taillights and snap a photo of the back of your car. Blinker will instantly pull up all of the details on your car, included the estimated Black BookTM value.
  4. Check to make sure all the details on your car are correct, and edit any details if needed.
  5. Price your car for sale fairly. Unless you’ve made any major modifications to your car, we recommend using the suggested private party price.
  6. Take a few good photos of your car.
  7. Add a quick description about your car.
  8. Tap, “Post for sale.”

What should I include in the description of my car?

Blinker instantly provides the year, make, model, estimated mileage, CARFAX ReportTM, and all the technical information. So, in your description, you can list any additional details that make your car valuable and unique. Recently detailed? New tires? Good for the mountains?

Where should I set my test drive location?

You can set a test drive location to let potential buyers know where you are interested in showing your car. Pick a place that is well lit and safe. You can anywhere you’d like – a park, a coffee shop, anything. Many police stations also offer zones in the parking lot where you can meet with the potential buyer. Be flexible. Your potential buyer could be over an hour away. Meeting somewhere in the middle might be the solution to showcase your car to a potential buyer.

How should I price my car?

Be realistic about the price you are asking for. Blinker will show you a few different market prices for your car, but you will have the flexibility to set your asking price. Unless you’ve made any major modifications to your car, we recommend using the recommended private party value. Also, remember – Blinker cannot facilitate a sale where you owe more on a loan against the car than what it is worth. Consider paying down your loan to below your bottom price. This will allow you to quickly sell your car when you find a buyer.

Why should I allow Blinker to post to Craigslist?

When you click, “allow us to post to Craigslist,” this will allow Blinker to automatically post your listing to Craigslist and other markets that are appropriate for your car. This will help get the most visibility for your car, so you can quickly and easily find the right buyer.

Why should I share my listing on social media?

Blinker will give you the option to share your listing on Facebook and Twitter. This is a great way to get some extra eyeballs on your listing from people you may know and trust.

Why does Blinker need a photo of my driver’s license?

Snapping a photo of your driver’s license and scanning the back of your license will help us verify your identity. Plus, it will help us fill in more information about you, which will save you some typing later. Any information you provide is secure.

Why does Blinker need my bank account information?

When you sell your car and it comes time for you to get paid, we need to know where to send your money. There are two different ways you can link your bank account. Depending on your banking institution, you can use your banking credentials to instantly link your account, or you can choose micro deposits. This is an ACH transfer and can take 1–2 business days. All of your information is secure. The faster you link your bank account, the more prepared you will be when you find the perfect buyer.

Why does Blinker need my phone number?

Don’t worry, we are not going to spam you. This is in case we have questions about your transaction.

I’ve listed my car for sale. Now what?

Once you’ve listed your car for sale, interested buyers will message you directly in the app. To make sure that you do not miss these messages, please make sure that your account is set to allow push messages. Any email communication from Blinker about the sale of your car will come from (notifications@blinker.com). You might want to consider adding this email address into your address book to make sure you do not miss any communication from us.

What should I do if someone sends me an offer without ever seeing my car?

Occasionally someone might send you an offer for your car, sight unseen. We suggest reaching out and setting up a test drive or meeting before you accept an offer. You have 72 hours to accept the offer, but once the offer is accepted you will not receive any communication from other prospective buyers.

I’ve accepted an offer. What’s the hold up?

At this point in the process, there could be a momentary pause in the transaction if both parties haven’t yet completed all of their to-do’s. Keep in mind that verifying your bank account can take up to two business days. Stay in communication with the buyer. Once both parties have completed their to-do’s, you will see a new task: “Authorize Transaction.” Once you see that task, make sure that you have the paperwork, emissions test, a screwdriver, and an ink pen ready to go.

My credit score has improved. Should I refinance my car?

If your credit has improved since you originally took out your auto loan you may be able to get a lower interest rate by refinancing. A reduced interest rate could save you on your monthly payment and potentially save you hundreds or even thousands over the life of the loan.

Is this deal contingent on getting approval for financing from a third party?

No. When refinancing through Blinker we are your lender. Monthly payments on your loan will be made through our subsidiary Blinker Direct.

Can I receive cash back when I refinance my car?

If your vehicle qualifies and you have paid down a portion of your original balance, you may be eligible to receive cash back. Any cash back will be added to your loan amount and be repaid over the term of your loan.

Will my car qualify for refinance?

Refinancing is available on vehicle model years 6 years old or newer with less than 100K miles.

Will my auto insurance be affected by refinancing?

Refinancing should not have any impact on your auto insurance premiums. You will be required to notify your insurance company that you have changed the lienholder (lender) on your vehicle.

Are there any vehicle refinancing fees?

There are no origination fees or application fees associated with refinancing.

What if I want to pay off my loan faster than planned or all at once? Are there any penalties for prepaying my loan?

No. Blinker does not charge a pre-payment penalty for paying off your loan early.

How long will it take Blinker to pay off my previous lender?
